Hi, friends!
Today we want to share with you an interview with Irina Tserush, student of «Arts and Culture Management» study program, who studied at Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy) for a semester during her academic mobility program.
• Why did you decide to take part in the mobility program?
I have always wanted to take part in academic mobility program. I obtained my Bachelor's degree at the other university and this opportunity had seemed unachievable to me. There is an atmosphere of academic trips at HSE so it started to become true. Until the last moment I did not believe that I would end up in university abroad in Italy! The pandemic brought a sense of uncertainty. But just when I arrived, the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan switched to offline learning, and I was incredibly happy about that fact.
• How was your studies at your partner university?
All my courses were devoted to fashion and luxury, because where, if not in Milan, to study it. We had a lot of teamwork, just like at the HSE. We have done projects for Nespresso and Bottega Veneta. It was very valuable to listen to the guest speakers.
• What advantages of the program would you note for yourself?
We were free to be creative. We created communication strategies using different mediums and from different points of view. We conducted netnography - sociological research of the audience of a fashion brand in social networks. We also created a startup prototype for a T-shirt selling.
• How did you benefit from participating in the academic mobility?
The university (called Cattolica) turned out to be a picturesque place usually shown in films. The university courtyards, former cloisters of the monastery built by Donato Bramante in the 15th century, have become a favorite meeting place for students and professors. The university looks like the realm of proactivity.
During the mobility I met a lot of new people. I reckon the most important value of studying on a mobility program is the development of soft skills and emotional intelligence through meeting people from different parts of the world. International friends and professors have taught me to think open-minded and optimistically.
There are plenty things to do in Milan, despite the prejudice that the city is "un-Italian". The city harmoniously combines the old and the new. From the art point of view, you can find everything here: ancient heritage, early Christian masterpieces, Leonardo works, and, of course, modern and contemporary art. Creative industries are extremely developing here. Milan is the city of "Fashion Week" and "Design Week", the city of at least four museums devoted entirely to these industries and a major shopping mecca.
• What advice would you give to students who want to take part in a mobility program?
I can advise that students who want to go on mobility not to be afraid of difficulties, because the student community will surely help them and give useful tips. As for the accommodation, it’s the biggest expenditure for international student in Milan. If you need to save up some money, try to find a dorm.
