THE Question for Our Times: How Do We Stop Western Barbarity?
Today at The Saker's website, a similar question was posed dealing with Ukraine
"How long until we stop this?" is an apt paraphrasing for the similar series of questions asked about the mayhem occurring in Ukraine at the behest of the Outlaw US Empire. Unfortunately, the question isn't at all new. MLK was murdered for asking it. Julian Assange is the Empire's prisoner for exposing its heinous crimes. And all too much more can be added to thier names. Yes, the Outlaw US Empire's War on the World that's been its primary way of doing business since 1945 that was accelerated in 1989--remember Director of the CIA and POTUS GHW Bush's New World Order.
I wrote much more about this issue today in a series of comments at the MoA blog. This relates to what lies at the bottom of everything but is known/recognized by few:
South Pacific Island Nations (PICs) provide lesson in sovereignty and behavior in international relations, "Sovereign states have the right to choose how they get along with other countries: King of Tonga responds to China-Tonga cooperation":
"Leaders of PICs recently said that the South Pacific Island Countries are not the 'backyard' of any country, but independent and sovereign countries that have the right to decide their own affairs." [My Emphasis]
The overall war is all about national sovereignty and the cultivation of indivisible security that forms the base of the UN Charter. China's FM Wang Yi's trip to eight PICs was done to shut up the AUKUS squawkers and to provide a lesson to all NATO nations since they all lack sovereignty and are thus tools in the employ of the Outlaw US Empire. Wang Yi's trip turns The Mouse That Roared story on its head. The PICs know all too well the cost of "aid" provided by the Outlaw US Empire and its Australian vassal. And don't think that the Global South isn't watching. The unfolding tragedy in Europe is the result of surrendering your independence for what was thought to be security. I recall Ben Franklin saying something about the wisdom of that choice: “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
At WW2's end, the Allied nations convened a series of conferences to make real the war aims announced by Roosevelt in his Four Freedoms Speech in January 1941 armed with his post-war vision of the world freed from Fascism and Naziism. In 1945 the formation of the United Nations Organization was announced as well as the completion of its founding documents, paramount being the UN Charter. The UN Charter's primary emphasis was the declaration that all nations large and small were equal before International Law and that they were not to be interfered with except through actions taken by the UN Security Council--the UNSC was the ONLY entity allowed to interfere in the internal affairs of ANY nation. Yet, when the UN Charter came into legal force on October 24, 1945, the Outlaw US Empire was already in violation as it was meddling in the affairs of dozens of nations as well as conducting a secret war in territories occupied by the USSR. These actions not only violated the UN Charter but also the US Constitution which EVERY politician and military person in the USA swears an oath to defend and uphold. Indeed, it's the President's PRIMARY job to do just that--ensure the law is properly enforced. What's now occurring in Ukraine is just the most recent incident in the Outlaw US Empire's serial violation of the UN Charter and its own Constitution.
Now that the Truth's been told. How do we stop the lawbreaking? Russia and China have made several proposals this year. On February 4, Russia and China put forth this manifesto within their Joint Declaration:
"The Parties [Russia & China] appeal to all States, in the interests of the general welfare, to strengthen dialogue and mutual trust, to deepen mutual understanding, to uphold such universal values as peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom, to respect the rights of peoples to independently choose the path of development of their countries, as well as the sovereignty and interests of States in the field of security and development, to protect the international system based on the central role of the United Nations. A world order based on international law, to strive for genuine multilateralism with the central and coordinating role of the UN and its Security Council, to promote the democratization of international relations, to ensure the achievement of peace, stability and sustainable development in the world."
That promotes returning the UN Charter to Paramouncy as was the initial intent. Later on April 22 at the Boao Forum, Xi Jinping proposed the Global Security Initiative:
"It is important that we stay committed to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and work together to maintain world peace and security; stay committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, uphold non-interference in internal affairs, and respect the independent choices of development paths and social systems made by people in different countries; stay committed to abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, reject the Cold War mentality, oppose unilateralism, and say no to group politics and bloc confrontation; stay committed to taking the legitimate security concerns of all countries seriously, uphold the principle of indivisible security, build a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture, and oppose the pursuit of one's own security at the cost of others' security; stay committed to peacefully resolving differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation, support all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of crises, reject double standards, and oppose the wanton use of unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction; stay committed to maintaining security in both traditional and non-traditional domains, and work together on regional disputes and global challenges such as terrorism, climate change, cybersecurity and biosecurity.
"We need to work together to tackle global governance challenges. Countries around the world are like passengers aboard the same ship who share the same destiny. For the ship to navigate the storm and sail toward a bright future, all passengers must pull together. The thought of throwing anyone overboard is simply not acceptable. In this day and age, the international community has evolved so much that it has become a sophisticated and integrated apparatus. Acts to remove any single part will cause serious problems to its operation. When that happens, both the victims and the initiators of such acts will stand to lose. In today's world, unilateralism and excessive pursuit of self-interest are doomed to fail, so are the practices of decoupling, supply disruption and maximum pressure and the attempts to forge "small circles" or to stoke conflict and confrontation along ideological lines. Instead, we need to embrace a global governance philosophy that emphasizes extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, promotes the common values of humanity, and advocates exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. We need to uphold true multilateralism and firmly safeguard the international system with the UN at its core and the international order underpinned by international law. It is particularly important for major countries to lead by example in honoring equality, cooperation, good faith and the rule of law and act in a way befitting their status."
Do note the similarity to the Manifesto. Last year, China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and sixteen other nations formed the Group Defending the UN Charter, which has since grown in size, adding members even after Russia's SMO launch. It's now become clear that essentially 1/8th of the world led by the Outlaw US Empire is at odds with the other 7/8ths led by Russia and China. At its essence, Neoliberal Fascism versus Social-Democratic Industrial Capitalism--the clash of two vastly different economic systems as Dr. Michael Hudson describes that benefit two starkly opposed classes: Essentially Royalty versus everyone else as it was during the Feudal Era.
Given the above, how do we stop the ongoing Class War? Royalty always chose to employ force to keep its position and subdue the masses, and it does so today. It's "not agreement capable" whatsoever as we see how Zelensky's controlled. Unfortunately, I see only one solution--The French Solution of 1789, which noted the failure of the English Civil War and subsequent Restoration. Remember, those running the Outlaw US Empire don't listen to anyone except at the point-of-a-gun and their word is useless because they're Fascists at heart and think themselves exceptional--a Nazi trait.
One further set of facts must be considered. Fascists and Nazis cultivate allies of a similar nature, a fact proven during WW2. What we've seen since 1945 is the willingness of the Outlaw US Empire to do the same as Fascists were put back into power in occupied Europe and Asia, recruited Nazis to return to Eastern Europe to wage the secret proxy war there, used Nazis spirited away from Nuremburg Judgement to South America and the Caribbean to form the CIA's Terrorist Foreign Legion/Death Squads to wage war against nationalists, socialists and anyone else opposing US control and to capture all regional governments. That Terrorist Foreign Legion was also used in Asia and Europe and is still employed in Syria, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Lots of documentation, some even published by the Outlaw US Empire, proves all the above. Lots of carnage came before the current killing spree.
Now, we should again ask how do we stop what's clearly madness yet has existed since 1945? An institution and mechanisms were developed but weren't capable of doing the job then or now. Can anything better than the UN and its Charter be devised? IMO, the answer is no, although the institution can be improved and democratized. The main point at issue is the UNSC Veto which prevents humanity from holding the Outlaw US Empire accountable for its many crimes. Pacify the Outlaw US Empire then renegotiate the purpose of the UNSC? Good hypothesis but how to implement? Eject the Outlaw US Empire from the UN and move its HQ?
I've mulled over those and other possibilities for the last three decades. IMO, as with Ukraine, the USA must be demilitarized and denazified to the point where a new Constitution is written and new institutions established. Russians ought to return the 1990s favor provided by the Outlaw US Empire.
Amarynth [moderator at Saker website], you posed the really tough question, How do we stop the madness? As you see, it's not at all simple and can easily escalate given the lack of civility shown by the Collective West. The history behind today is gruesome and remains unknown by far too many people, and we need knowledgeable people to act in their own interests and those of humanity. Hudson sees the world dividing into two blocs based on economic and moral philosophy. I think he's correct, that the only way to solve most of the issue is for Russia to go all the way to Paris as it once did. But that still doesn't solve the problem of having an Outlaw US Empire to quell.
